The Factors of Effects on Quality of Life in Acute Stroke Patients

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was a investigation of effect factors on quality of life in acute stroke patients. And made the evidence based data for use goal setting on acute stroke rehabilitation.

Methods: The study was performed using 80 acute stroke patients who were hospitalized in A Medical Center from December 2012 to September 2013 for rehabilitation. We invested subject`s sex, age, diagnosis, onset, subtype, dominant hand, education level, marital status, and job through medical chart and interview. We assessed the cognitive function through K-MMSE, activity of daily living through MBI, and quality of life through SS-QOL.

Result: The quality of life of acute stroke patients was not influenced by sex(p=.399), age(p=.105), subtype(p=.061), dominant hand(p=.168), education level(p=.918), marital status(p=.934), job(p=.698), and cognitive function(p=.510). The quality of life was negatively correlated with their cognitive function except ¡°thinking¡±, but positively correlated with their activity of daily living(p<.05, p<.01).

Conclusion: This study shows that quality of life of acute stroke patients is affected by activity of daily living. Therefor, we should consider the acute stroke patient`s activity of daily living when plan the rehabilitation that reflects the quality of life.
